What inspires me:
Most of my inspiration stems from observing the natural world. Whether that be observing the scenery as I walk home or simply looking at what colors comprise an object, I'm usually (accidentally) staring off into seemingly nowhere. Another important inspiration is music. When I'm not in class, I'm listening to music. Certain songs have certain vibes with them, and listening to music usually helps me to create a scene in my head.
Concentration Concept:
My concentration focuses on societal issues throughout the world. With this concentration I wanted to educate the viewer on problems that they may not have thought about, as well as inspire action to help fix such problems. Each piece presents a different issue that is prevalent within modern society.
As Americans, we have the privilege of free speech, and we shouldn't ignore it! It's so important to take advantage of our ability to fight for our opinions and for others’ rights, and I want to inspire that drive. It's also important just in general to take a step back and address the issues that we face, as well as working towards improving upon them.
Technique:
When approaching a piece, I always start with a small thumb sketch for the base idea. This often evolves into sketches upon sketches as I test out different shape, color, and contrast combinations. I like to see all my options before deciding upon a final idea. Once I figure out what I'm drawing, I often incorporate unique color pairs, bold strokes, and a lot of contrast to make my focal points pop. My style usually flips between very smoothly-shaded realism and more abstract pieces with blunt shading.
